EVERETT, Wash. — The City of Everett says a homeless camp on private property south of downtown is illegal, and will have to disband
The Hand Up Project was leasing the so-called Base Camp for a month as a place to go for people recently swept from the Snohomish County Courthouse.
Organizer Robert Smiley told KOMO he’s been able to get 15 people off the streets and into programs in the four days since the camp started.
Everett Police Officer Aaron Snell says the encampment is illegal.
KOMO reports nearby businesses and neighbors say they’ve noticed an uptick in property crime and theft since the encampment sprang up on Sunday.
