SEATTLE, Wash. — There may be longer ferry waits than usual this holiday weekend due to the pandemic.
Washington State Ferries says staff will enforce reduced occupancy in terminals and on sailings for walk-on passengers in an effort to maintain physical distance standards.
They advise riders on the Anacortes/San Juan Islands route to plan for delays as service on the run has been falling behind schedule lately.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the route is operating on timetables normally used during winter months, which are not designed to handle the loading and unloading times of higher ridership levels.
The agency says riders on all routes should check schedules, prepare for long waits, and consider taking an early morning or late evening sailing to avoid crowds.
