OLYMPIA, Wash. — It’s flu season again and experts recommend everyone six months and older get vaccinated now.

“It takes two weeks for the flu shot to become active, which is why we recommend people get it as soon as possible, says Danielle Koenig with the State Department of Health.

The DOH reports nearly 300 people in Washington died from the flu and flu-related complications last year, while thousands of others got sick.

“Even young healthy people can get sick or die from the flu,” says Koenig.

The flu vaccine is now available at many pharmacies and healthcare providers in the state.

Last year’s death toll was reportedly the highest in forty years.
