BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An explosion and fire injured one person and startled a Bellingham neighborhood Sunday evening.

Bellingham Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy reports some propane tanks stashed in woods behind homes in the 3100 block of Brandywine Court exploded and caused a fire at about 6:30 p.m.

One person was treated for non-life threatening injuries but their connection to the incident wasn’t immediately clear.

No homes in the Brandywine neighborhood just east of the Barkley District urban village were in danger.

Barkley Boulevard was closed in the area for about an hour.

Lt. Murphy says the tanks may have been stashed at a make-shift encampment in the area that features popular biking and walking trails, but that and the reason they exploded remain under investigation.
