BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Tempers flared at Monday’s Bellingham City Council meeting as Republican candidate for governor Tim Eyman confronted members over an emergency ordinance.
Council president Gene Knutson says they weren’t taking public comment at the meeting because of coronavirus concerns.
He says Eyman stoked passions with social media posts claiming the council was infringing on gun rights.
Knutsen says Eyman and others did eventually sit quietly through the meeting.
The council passed procedural changes to the decades-old ordinance that city attorneys say had no effect on gun ownership or sales.
