BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Cooke Aquaculture tried to pay off the Lummi Nation after the company’s Cypress Island Atlantic Salmon farm failed.
The Seattle Times reports Cooke offered to pay a premium price for farmed salmon caught by tribal fishermen if the tribe agreed not to come out against fish farms.
The tribe wanted nothing to do with the deal.
More than 100,000 non-native Atlantic Salmon escaped when the Cypress Island facility collapsed in August.
