BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Members of Whatcom County’s diverse communities plan a vigil Saturday evening to memorialize those killed and honor those affected by the recent racially-related and religiously-related shootings in America.

Organizer Shamaia Kountouros says the “Tree of Life Vigil” is a chance for the public to grieve those lost in the shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh and the shootings of two black people at a grocery store in Kentucky.

“We really wanted it to be an interconnected solidarity vigil with groups in our community who are targets of hate and prejudice,” says Kountouros.

Members of the local Sikh, Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities and Black Lives Matter will speak.

The vigil is from 6 to 8 tomorrow evening in the Whatcom County Courthouse rotunda.
