BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Someone’s apparently been having a bit of fun with the Asian giant hornet scare.
A listener sent us a picture of an official looking flier he found posted on a gate northeast of Bellingham.
It gives some fairly accurate information about a hornet that was found in Bellingham, but includes a warning that the “murder hornets” leave “piles of dead bees or people, most of them headless.”
Karla Salp with the Department of Agriculture says that was a giveaway, telling KGMI, “we confirmed that it’s not one of our posters. It looks like some of the information was pulled from our website, obviously our logo was. But that was not our poster, and obviously not something we would say.”
The contact information to report giant hornet sightings to the department was accurate.
