BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Trump administration will temporarily stop spotlighting cities and counties they say don’t cooperate with federal immigration officials.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office has repeatedly appeared on the report, much to the consternation of Sheriff Bill Elfo.
“We have a great working relationship with all the component agencies of the Department of Homeland Security here in Whatcom County,” Elfo said.
“However, there is a big disconnect, from my perspective, from what goes on locally to people working in District of Columbia.”
The New York Times reports Elfo wasn’t alone – several jurisdictions questioned the accuracy of the data.
The reports are part of Trump’s get-tough policies on illegal immigration.
