LYNDEN, Wash. – The federal government ordered the Nooksack Tribe to close its Northwood Casino near Lynden.

The National Indian Gaming commission says it found substantial violations of its regulations, the Indian Gaming Act and the tribe’s gaming ordinance.

The commission says the tribe also failed to protect the environment, public health and safety.

It could be fined more than 50-thousand dollars per day if corrections aren’t made.

This is just the latest blow to the tribe.

Last month, a Federal judge dismissed the Nooksack Tribe’s lawsuit against the federal government.

Like others before him, the judge ruled he couldn’t recognize the tribal council that filed the suit because it isn’t legitimate.

The Tribe also to got a new healthcare provider this month when the Federal Government took over the system.

Both of those moves are related to the tribe’s attempt to remove nearly 300 members.
