LAS VEGAS – A couple from Ferndale were among the thousands of people at the Las Vegas country music festival that was attacked by a gunman Sunday night.
Jeff Bannerman spoke with King 5 and The Seattle Times Monday morning.
He related a chaotic and bloody scene as he and his wife Deanna first hid under bleachers then ran from the scene.
Bannerman says he tried to help wounded people but found that many of them were too badly hurt or already dead.
They were able to make it to the MGM Grand Hotel while gunshots were still ringing out.
They were in Las Vegas with about ten other friends from Whatcom County.
Bellingham School District spokesperson Jacqueline Brawley says three clerical workers from the district office were among those friends in Las Vegas for the concert.
They’re all OK.
But The Bellingham Herald reports a member of the Lummi Nation is among the injured.
Melinda Brockie, wife of Lummi Indian Business Council member Travis Brockie, was wounded in the shooting.
Her family said in a statement that she’s in stable condition after emergency surgery.
There’s a GoFundMe page set up to help the Brockie family.
