FERNDALE, Wash. – The City of Ferndale rescinded its voluntary evacuation order at 9 a.m. today, Wednesday, November 17th.
Mayor Greg Hansen says the city rose to the challenge to fight the flood and “Ferndale Pride” was on full display.
The city is assessing damage to roads and infrastructure and is reminding citizens to continue heeding road closed and detour signs.
Residents who need help can call a special hotline at 360-788-5311.
The city asked people in the area south of Main Street between 4th Street and the Nooksack River voluntarily evacuate Tuesday morning, November 16th.
City Administrator Jori Burnett says that’s the most vulnerable section of the city.
“This is the area that has the most significant potential impact from the river overcoming its banks,” says Burnett.
He says the community has come together to protect their neighbors.
“We’ve probably had about 300 to 400 volunteers over the course of the day at city hall filling thousands and thousands of sandbags,” says Burnett. “Which has really helped our city crews, crews from the City of Blaine as well, Whatcom County, Army Corps of Engineers, kind of fight this fight.”
The city has set up a hotline for residents who may need help.
The hotline number is (360) 788-5311.
