FERNDALE, Wash – A Kickerville Road farmer faces five charges of animal cruelty after allegedly neglecting more than 20 cattle and pigs for 6 months.

The Bellingham Herald reports Seth Snook, owner of Snookbrook Farms, said he couldn’t afford to feed the animals.

Whatcom Humane Society investigators seized the animals earlier this month and had to euthanize five of them due to their condition.

The Dairy Farmers of Washington organization (DFW) issued a press release Friday saying the conditions on the farm don’t represent their animal treatment standards, and supporting the investigation.

Snook is set to appear in Whatcom Superior Court May 12th.
