BELLINGHAM, Wash. — he Coast Guard rescued a man in a wooden rowboat in chilly and windy Bellingham Bay Thursday.
A good Samaritan called them after seeing a man waving his arms and calling for help.
The 26-year-old Ferndale man was rowing his 7-foot dingy across the bay to an anchored sailboat that he said he was working on when he lost his oars.
He also didn’t have a life jacket or any communication equipment with him.
The Coast Guard crew transferred him to Bellingham Fire EMT’s who took him to the hospital with early signs of hypothermia.
The Coast Guard reminds everyone to be aware of weather conditions and make sure they’re well equipped when venturing out onto the water.
