FERNDALE, Wash. — As the presidential election heats up, it affects the way we interact as a community, and Ferndale Mayor Greg Hansen says he is upset and saddened by the way some of the community has reacted to conflicts.

The mayor cited recent racial threats, burning of political signs, and toxic conversations about the school levy.

Hansen points out that Ferndale has historically had a healthy balance between liberals and conservatives, and no matter where you fall politically, the community can do better than this.

The mayor concluded his speech saying the ties that bind the community together are stronger than its disagreements, so be kind to each other, be thoughtful and be neighborly as that is what Ferndale does best.
