FERNDALE, Wash. — Three Washington cities, including a local one, have been marked the least overburdened by student loan debt.

A new report from WalletHub says Ferndale, Stanwood, and Woodinville are among the 10 least overleveraged cities in the country, meaning their debt is the most manageable. They all rank in the first percentile in this study of hundreds of cities across the nation.

The ratio of student debt to median earnings of bachelor’s degree holders in Ferndale is 18.17%.

WalletHub lists only four other cities with lower ratios.

Bellingham’s ratio of debt to earnings is significantly higher at 43.67%.

A study from Brookings says the share of students graduating with more than $50,000 in student debt has more than tripled since 2000.
