FERNDALE, Wash. — Following Governor Inslee’s adoption of spacing guidelines for students, the Ferndale District has announced revised re-opening plans.
On a Facebook live broadcast Thursday, Whatcom County Public Health Nurse Kim Hankinson said the new 3 foot guidelines are not cut and dry, saying they’re still recommending maintaining six feet between staff, teacher and student and during any unmasked time.
Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn says the district will move quickly to get back to more in person learning, adding they will be able to increase the amount of in-person learning after spring break.
Quinn suggests that it will take several weeks to work out all of the scheduling and protocols.
During the session, she said the District’s plan is to be back to 5 days per week in person in the fall, subject to change if conditions change.
When asked if 5 days in person was possible later this spring, Quinn replied it was possible and she hopes so.
Director of Human Resources John Fairbairn said the current hybrid AA-BB schedule would become unnecessary when students are back face to face 5 days a week.
