FERNDALE, Wash. – Changes are coming to the City of Ferndale, thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan.

City officials said in a press release that they’re expecting nearly $4.2 million in funding and plans are in the works to distribute that money across several initiatives.

The largest portion of those funds will go towards the Main Street Program, which will add more events and programs downtown.

A new, paid Executive Director position would also be created with the funding, with the goal of making it a self-sustaining role in the future.

Another $200,000 will be distributed among the city’s small businesses, in particular, businesses with less than 20 employees.

City officials are also looking to secure additional state funding for a second paid position, which would act as a liaison between those experiencing hardships and local resources.
