FERNDALE, Wash. — Intalco Aluminum is being fined for multiple air quality violations at their Ferndale facility.

The Washington Department of Ecology is fining the aluminum supplier $27,500 after they exceeded pollution limits 11 different times in the past two years.

DOE toxicologists say the excess fluoride and particulate emissions do not represent a threat to human health, but they do have an impact on the environment and violate the law.

Intalco’s emissions returned to compliance with the fluoride limits in May 2018 but particulate emissions are still above the limit.
