MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — While forecasters are expecting some rain this week, they are also expecting some extra winds and firefighters are warning people to be extra careful, especially after flames made quick work of a Mount Vernon home.

KOMO reports a home on Lake Cavanaugh caught fire Saturday and despite multiple nearby boaters racing to help put the flames out, the home was destroyed fast.

Firefighters and the Department of Natural Resources warn residents that conditions are tinder-dry and a burn ban is in effect in Whatcom County, except for recreational fires under specific circumstances.

Firefighters haven’t yet officially said the cause, but neighbors believe it might have been a faulty gas grill.
