OLYMPIA, Wash. — Deep frying turkeys has become very popular over the years, and so have videos of the practice going terribly wrong, so the State Fire Marshal’s Office is asking families to remember their safety tips.
Always fry the turkey outside and away from anything combustible, also keep a fire extinguisher nearby and do not use water in the event oil overflows causing a fire.
Oil and water do not mix, especially when the oil is extremely hot, so completely thaw and dry the bird.
You’re also urged to wear protective gear such as gloves, an apron and eyewear.
