BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) An unidentified man started a fire outside the Planned Parenthood on Ellis Street early Wednesday morning, November 8th.

Mount Baker Planned Parenthood CEO Linda McCarthy says they were alerted of the fire around 4 a.m.

The Bellingham Fire Department arrived and quickly got it under control.

Surveillance video later showed a man stuffing papers onto a bench in front of the clinic and lighting them on fire.

He also shoved papers under the back door of the building and tried to light them as well.

The man was later contacted by Bellingham Police while under a blanket near the back door.

McCarthy says it did not appear to be a targeted attack on the clinic or its services and that it is still open for business.

Damage caused by the fire is estimated to be over $7,500, according to Bellingham Police PIO Megan Peters.

The unidentified suspect was booked into the Whatcom County Jail where he remains without bail.
