WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Don’t be alarmed if you see fires in Whatcom County’s foothills.
Whatcom Fire District 14 posted Friday that fires above Mosquito Lake Road are normal slash burns managed by the Department of Natural Resources,
They burn the remains of logging operations to help foster new tree growth and reduce fuel for wildfires.
The department burns the material during the cooler wetter months every year.
