MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – At least five people were injured in an overnight shooting at the Mount Vernon Walmart.

Mount Vernon Police said that a group of men arrived at the Walmart just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 17th, and got into a fight with a second group inside the store.

Shots were fired during the altercation, striking a 72-year-old customer and a 24-year-old employee.

Three 19-year-olds involved in the fight were also shot.

One of the teens, along with the customer and employee, were taken to the hospital.

Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Police believe that the threat was contained between the two groups and that there’s no active threat to the public at this time.

While all human victims were accounted for following last night’s shooting, Mount Vernon Police say that an animal was left behind at the scene.

An officer recovered a puppy that was left in a shopping cart inside of the store.

Police have been unsuccessful in locating the pet’s owner.

Anyone with information on the incident, or has any knowledge on the whereabouts of the puppy’s owner, is being asked to contact the Mount Vernon Police at 360-428-3211.
