WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A flood watch has ended for Whatcom, Skagit and other western Washington Counties.

John Gargett with Whatcom Emergency Management says the Nooksack River is still within its banks but conditions are primed for some minor flooding.

“The ground continues to just be totally saturated,” said Gargett. “We just went through this freeze and, while it has thawed these last few days, that thaw has not completed itself. All this rain has fallen and it is staying right up on the surface and that’s causing some localized flooding.”

He says they’re keeping an eye on the area around Slater Road south of Ferndale which is prone to flooding during heavy rains and high tides.

Floodwaters have closed a stretch of road near Everson.

WSDOT says East Pole Road remains closed between Everson Goshen Road and the Hannegan this morning.

The National Weather Service in Seattle says that more rain in the forecast today, Thursday, January 13th, increases the risk of landslides.
