WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – There’s a flood watch in effect for Whatcom and Skagit Counties until 4 p.m. Saturday, November 27th.
Heavy rain and runoff is expected flooding of rivers and low-lying areas.
At this point, the Nooksack River is projected to reach moderate flood stage on Sunday.
The latest flood models show Sunday morning’s predicted flows are likely high enough to overtop Main Street in Everson.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, local fire districts are being deployed to help during this weekend’s storm.
Washington State National Guard troops are expected to arrive Saturday to assist local agencies in their efforts.
Whatcom County Public Works has sent additional sand and sandbag supplies to both Everson and Sumas.
The County says the Army Corp of Engineers is working on levee repairs but you should expect minor flooding on county roads and some closures.
Do not try to drive through high water and heed all warning and road closure signs.
