BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Floodwaters have been receding but many roads in Whatcom County are still closed or compromised by floodwaters and debris this morning.

Hannegan Road south of Lynden remains closed, as are Slater and Smith Roads west of I-5.

Marine Drive and other roads in the Marietta area are also closed today.

The border crossing in Sumas is now open according to WSDOT’s webpage.

A landslide slid across both lanes of northbound I-5 on Saturday, closing the freeway while the slope was inspected for safety and debris and a broken guardrail was removed.

WSDOT crews will work to remove debris and repair the guardrail Monday through Wednesday during daylight hours.

The right lane of northbound I-5 will be closed during that time just north of the Whatcom-Skagit county line; the right lane will reopen at night but the shoulder will remain closed during the work.

Due to flooding, all Nooksack Valley Schools are closed Monday.

Drivers are reminded to never try to get through water on roadways.

Rescuers had to pull a number of people from stranded vehicles over the weekend.

A list of road closures and restrictions are available on the Whatcom County website.
