BELLINGHAM, Wash. – With the flu now widespread across the country and at least 109 confirmed flu deaths in Washington alone, hospitals are seeing their waiting areas filled to capacity.
Both the Whatcom County Health Department and PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical center are asking people with mild flu symptoms to either stay home or contact their primary care doctor.
Emergency symptoms in adults include pain or pressure in the chest, persistent vomiting and symptoms that improve then return even worse.
Children should be taken to the ER if they have trouble breathing, aren’t drinking enough fluids or won’t wake up or interact.
