BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A food drive is underway that will not only provide disaster response training, but will also benefit food banks.

The food drive is part of the Disaster Airlift Response Team’s multi-county training operation to prepare pilots to respond to major earthquakes and other disasters with rescue, medical assistance and critical medical supplies in times of need.

80% of the food donated will go to the Bellingham Food Bank.

Donations will be collected at the Lakeway Fred Meyer through September 10.

To donate online, go to the Fred Meyer website and reserve time and date of pick-up at the Lakeway location only. Shop for any canned or boxed item, and when finishing the order, specify Karla Booker as the pick-up person.

To donate in person, shop at the Lakeway Fred Meyer for any canned or boxed items. Once purchased, take your donation to the customer service desk and let them know it’s for the DART September 12th disaster exercise and they will hold the food.
