WASHINGTON, D.C., — The Forest Service is proposing logging near the North Fork Nooksack River.

Proposed action includes nearly 4,000 acres of forest thinning along with up to about 1800 acres of stand regeneration.

The U.S. Forest Service says harvest activities would likely begin in 2022 and continue for several years.

They say the project will ultimately be good for the ecosystem.

The North Cascades Conservation Council disagrees, saying it would seriously damage the natural ecosystem and impact local communities and recreation.

Both groups are asking the community to leave their opinion on the project through an electronic form, which can be found here.

The Forest Service says your input will be used to identify significant issues, develop alternatives, and find potential effects of the project.
