BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A former Bellingham Police officer convicted along with his brother for beating a man was sentenced to community service, but could see his assault conviction dismissed in the future.
Court documents show Sukhdev Singh Dhaliwal was ordered Monday to complete 240 hours of community service.
Sukhdev and his brother, Jagmeet, were arrested in October 2017 after beating a man at his Blaine workplace for dating their sister.
Jagmeet was sentenced to jail time.
Several fellow officers and the Bellingham Police Guild wrote letters to the court on Sukhdev’s behalf hoping he could be reinstated one day, saying this was out of character for him as he showed so much potential and dedication.
