MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – A former Mount Vernon credit union employee has been sentenced for stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly customer’s account.
U.S. Attorney for Western Washington Nick Brown says 31-year-old Lee Griffin will spend a year and a day behind bars after pleading guilty to bank fraud.
Griffin worked at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and transferred over $129,000 from the elderly customer’s account to his own over the course of three years.
The scheme was uncovered after the customer was hospitalized and a relative noticed the money was missing.
Griffin paid back the full amount stolen from the customer at a sentencing hearing on Tuesday, October 25th.
