FERNDALE, Wash. — Former Ferndale Mayor Jerry Landcastle has passed away at age 84.

Jerry Landcastle served as Ferndale’s mayor from 2003 to 2007.

City Communications Officer Riley Sweeney says in a statement that he help modernize Ferndale’s financial system and city code and help shepherd Centennial Riverwalk Park.

He generated some controversy as almost all of the people who headed city departments when he was elected either resigned or were fired during his tenure.

Sweeney says Landcastle was a “straight shooter” who never minced words and deeply cared about Ferndale.

He died on Monday, and a funeral mass will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Ferndale at a date to be determined.
