LYNDEN, Wash. — An ex-wrestling coach at Lynden High School has been accused of raping a former athlete on his team.
The 20-year-old victim came forward January 6 and reported that 47-year-old Santos Rodriguez Gallegos of Everson had sexually assaulted her at a small gathering in Lynden on December 12.
Court documents say Gallegos repeatedly inappropriately touched the victim beneath her clothing despite her showing she did not want it and leaving the area multiple times.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office booked Gallegos into the Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of third-degree rape on January 7.
Jail records show he was released the following day on $1,500 bail.
The Lynden Tribune reports Gallegos had been the head coach of the girls wrestling program at Lynden High since its inception in the 2011-2012 season but is no longer employed with the district.
