WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – It was a busy Thursday for the volunteers of Whatcom County Fire District 14.
Crews from the Sumas and Kendall stations responded to two medical calls just before noon, then were quickly summoned to a house fire in the 8500 block of Lilac Lane.
They found a vintage 1970’s doublewide engulfed in flames with the fire spreading to nearby trees.
The fire killed three cats and destroyed the home, leaving the family of four without shelter.
The local Red Cross is assisting them.
Less than an hour later crews were called to a fire in a travel trailer used for storage in Maple Falls.
District 14 has just two paid fire fighters and 70 volunteers on call.
