Considering how infrequently we get temperatures this cold in our area, it may not be a surprise that Washington is among the top 10 states hit the hardest by frozen pipes.

State Farm Insurance policyholders in our state reported over $3.7 million in water losses due to frozen pipes and ice dams in 2017.

The average loss was nearly $23,000.

With low temperatures expected to be in the 20s, State Farm advises people to open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to piping, and run a small trickle of water at vulnerable faucets.
