BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Gas prices keep thrashing records and setting new ones both locally and nationally.

AAA says we’re paying an average of $5.16 per gallon in Bellingham on Thursday, May 19th, up a cent from yesterday and almost 30 cents more than a week ago.

Our average is just slightly behind Washington’s statewide average price.

The national average recently jumped above $4 for the first time ever and currently sits at nearly $4.60 per gallon.

JP Morgan projects high oil prices coupled with high demand during the summer driving season could push the national average above $6 per gallon.
