BELLINGHAM, Wash. — More than two days past a deadline for homeless campers to vacate the Frank Geri softball ball fields in the Civic Athletic Complex, and little has changed.
Monday morning at 4am, there appeared to be no reduction in the number of tents or campers at the site following the city’s Friday 4pm deadline.
Bonfires were burning, an aid tent was lit up, and a few campers were milling around
Mayor Seth Fleetwood’s sent KGMI a statement Friday saying “We established a deadline of 4 p.m. today, and posted notice of it on site, for people to leave the Geri field parking lot. We never said there was a planned dispersal action today. We do not provide details of our operations, especially knowing there are hostile protestors who wish to disrupt our efforts, as evidenced by our experience at City Hall on January 28.”
On Saturday, the group BOP Mutual Aid, with the BOP standing for “Bellingham Occupied Protest”, on Instagram posted a request for volunteers to fill ongoing needs at the camp, including trash pickup, food and cigarette provision, and supply tent organization.
