WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S./Canada border closure has officially been extended into 2021.

Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency, Bill Blair, tweeted Friday that Canada is extending non-essential travel restrictions with the U.S. until January 21st.

Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, also confirmed the border closure extension in a tweet Friday, saying the decision was made to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19 between countries.

Wolf says they are working closely with Canada to keep essential trade and travel open while also protecting citizens from the virus.
