OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee is calling on state lawmakers to take bold action on a multitude of issues during their 60-day legislative session.

“We know that every day of this legislative session is going to be an opportunity to make good on our commitments and to change the course of our future for the better,” said Inslee.

Inslee delivered his annual State of the State speech and called on lawmakers to address the homelessness crisis, help children impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and to take more steps to address climate change.

He acknowledged some new members of the legislature and paid respects to our late state senator.

“I know we’d all like to reiterate our condolences to the family of Senator Doug Ericksen who we lost after a struggle with COIVD in December,” said Inslee. “He was one of the more than 10,000 Washingtonians lost to this virus, each of whom whose lives mattered.”

In pre-pandemic times, the speech was delivered to a joint session of the House and Senate in the House chamber.

But with cases rising, lawmakers are conducting much of their work remotely.
