OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee has taken the first step in requesting federal aid for Whatcom County and other residents devastated by the November floods.
He sent a letter to FEMA director Deanne Criswell, alerting her to the severity of the storms that caused the flooding and the damage so many endured.
He told her the state is preparing a formal request for federal assistance and asks for swift action once it’s completed.
Property owners and businesses can still submit damage assessments but they’re urged to do it as soon as possible.
