OLYMPIA, Wash – Governor Jay Inslee signed a new two year, $43.7 billion state budget in time Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown.

The budget spends $1.8 billion on K-12 public schools over the next two years.

That amount is part of a $7.3 billion hike over four years designed to satisfy a state Supreme Court ruling that the state had not adequately funded public education.
