FERNDALE, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee toured some areas in Whatcom County that were hit hard by flooding this week.
“We talked to families who recognize this community was hit by the strong currents of the Nooksack River,” said Inslee. “But they have been saved by the strong currents of community strength that we’ve seen from this community.”
He sounded a familiar theme as he addressed the cause of the event.
“We are in a permanent state of attack in our state by the forces of climate change,” said Inslee. “We have to recognize that we are going to face decades of increased floods in our state of Washington.”
He praised the many first responders and volunteers who stepped up to help people in need.
Inslee also promised government assistance will be forthcoming.
