OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee says he will push for a state constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights within the state.

He is also exploring the passage of more laws that will make it difficult for other states to investigate whether their own residents have visited Washington for abortion care.

Inslee made the announcement during a news conference Saturday, June 25th, saying the right to an abortion in Washington should not depend on which political party holds the majority of seats in the Legislature.

Inslee also said he would ask legislators to strengthen privacy laws.

Inslee has also joined the governors of Oregon and California in their vow to protect reproductive rights.

Inslee, Kate Brown and Gavin Newsome are calling their coalition the West Coast Offense.

They are pledging to work together to defend patients and medical professionals who provide reproductive health care.
