OLYMPIA, WASH. – Governor Jay Inslee won’t say where he stands on changing the way car tab fees are figured in areas affected by last November’s landmark vote on Sound Transit.
The $54 billion spending package known as ST3 will fund light rail and bus expansion in King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties over the next 25 years.
Republicans in the State Senate want to mitigate the increase in car tab fees, but Inslee says he’s not sure whether he’d sign such a bill.
“I do believe it’s possible to have some changes to reduce concern about some of this sticker shock,” Inslee says.
At the same time, Inslee says he doesn’t want any change to affect construction of light rail from Everett to Tacoma.
So for now, he’s taking a wait-and-see attitude on car tabs.
