SEATTLE – It’s time to put down that phone or pay up.
The State Patrol has started handing out tickets to drivers who are caught holding their cellphones in their hands.
Trooper Brooke Bova tells KOMO that the six month grace period for the new law is over. “I think people got a little complacent knowing that there was that grace period, and were still using their phones,” Bova said.
You can have your phone on the passenger seat or in a holder.
A first time ticket for holding your phone costs $136.
A second offense is a $234 fine, and offenses are reported to your insurance company.
