PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Rescuers freed a gray whale tangled in a derelict fishing net near Port Angeles Friday.

Geoduck dive crews from the Department of Natural resources saw the whale while diving in the area.

KOMO reports the divers worked with the Coast Guard and NOAA’s West Coast Marine Mammal Stranding Network for about two hours to free the whale.

Derelict fishing gear can kill marine animals.
