BELLINGHAM, Wash. — It may not be smoky here yet, but with record-high temperatures and wildfires already scorching the west, you can expect smoky skies soon.
The Whatcom County Health Department says wildfire smoke is hazardous to everyone’s health, but children under 18, seniors, those with asthma or other lung disease, pregnant women and smokers are at particular risk.
The department says now is the time to prepare for smoky skies.
Stay up to date on air quality, stock up on necessary medication, and plan to filter indoor air.
When it’s very smoky, you may consider getting out of town.
Make plans in advance, gather your medications, make arrangements for any pets and check the air quality of the place to which you plan to travel.
