BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Health Department has successfully completed a mobile needle exchange program and is working to expand services.
According to the Northern Light, at least 79 people in Birch Bay and Maple Falls have used the service since July and in Birch Bay alone, nearly 500 needles were exchanged.
The mobile program also provides other health care services and the opportunity to talk to a substance abuse counselor.
The health department is hoping to expand the program to Ferndale soon.
