OLYMPIA, Wash. — Romaine lettuce behind the E. coli outbreak affecting 32 states, including Washington, is past its shelf life and the CDC says it’s unlikely it would still be available at stores or restaurants.
As of Wednesday, 172 cases had been reported to the CDC, with one death and seventy-five hospitalizations, twenty of which were people who had developed a type of kidney failure.
Washington has seven cases, while California and Pennsylvania have the most sickened by E. coli.
The CDC says the lettuce came from the Yuma, Arizona region and the harvest season is over.
